Water Infrastructure Upgrade Project Kicks Off in Klarinet, Addressing Shortages
**Witbank, Mpumalanga** – A significant infrastructure project aimed at alleviating persistent water shortages in Klarinet has officially commenced, with the Emalahleni Local Municipality initiating an upgrade to the area's water supply network. The project, which includes the replacement of aging pipes and the installation of new pumping stations, is anticipated to improve water pressure and ensure a more consistent supply for residents.
For years, Klarinet residents have grappled with intermittent water access, particularly during peak demand periods and extended dry spells. Mrs. Thandiwe Mokoena, a long-time resident of Klarinet Extension 3, expressed her relief. "We have struggled for so long with taps running dry for days. This project brings hope that our children will have reliable water for their daily needs, especially for hygiene and school." The municipality acknowledges these challenges, stating the upgrade is a direct response to community concerns and a commitment to essential service delivery.
Mr. Sipho Dlamini, the Emalahleni Local Municipality's Director of Infrastructure Services, highlighted the scope of the undertaking during a site visit on Tuesday. "This is a comprehensive intervention. We are not merely patching up old systems; we are investing in a robust, modern water infrastructure that will serve Klarinet for decades to come. The initial phase focuses on replacing approximately 5 kilometres of dilapidated asbestos cement pipes with durable PVC pipes, known for their longevity and resistance to corrosion."
The project is expected to be completed within 18 months, with minimal disruption to current water supply during construction. The municipality has assured residents that contingency plans, including the deployment of water tankers to affected areas, will be in place should temporary interruptions become necessary. Regular updates on the project's progress will be communicated through community liaison officers and local media channels. This initiative represents a crucial step towards enhancing the quality of life for Klarinet residents and underscores the municipality's dedication to sustainable urban development.
