Councillor Thandi Nkosi, Chairperson of the Municipal Finance Committee, acknowledged the severity of the situation in a press briefing on Tuesday. "We are facing a challenging financial period, largely due to a combination of declining revenue collection and escalating operational costs," Nkosi stated. Ms. Emily Mokoena, a resident of Klarinet, expressed her dismay. "We pay our rates and taxes diligently, yet we are left without basic services. Our streets are riddled with potholes, and we often go days without electricity or water. It feels like our money is disappearing into a black hole," she remarked during a recent protest outside the municipal offices. Similar sentiments were echoed by Mr. Sipho Dlamini from Tasbet Park, who highlighted the economic impact of unreliable services on local businesses.
